South Dakota Department of Health Maternal/Infant Mortality

The mission of the South Dakota Department of Health is to protect and improve the health of all South Dakotans. The Department of Health is entrusted with the vital task of promoting wellness, preventing disease, and ensuring access to quality healthcare for individuals and families across our great state. 

Pregnancy-associated deaths happen during pregnancy or within a year after it ends. Understanding these tragedies helps us improve care and prevent future losses. 

Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety

The mission of Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety is to use and enforce the sovereign rights and authorities of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, including but not limited to those afforded to the Tribe by its inherent sovereignty, its treaties and agreements, and applicable law, to protect people and property located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and to prevent outside interests from encroaching upon the sovereign rights and status of the Oglala Sioux Tribe.

South Dakota Department of Social Services

The South Dakota Department of Social Services, in coordination with the State Opioid Advisory Committee, has recently expanded the framework for organizations and communities to apply for funding through the Opioid Settlement Abatement funds. The new framework broadens the focus to include the full continuum of opioid remediation, expanding prevention efforts, strengthening treatment options, developing better recovery support, and investing in strategies that reduce relapse. The update also extends beyond individuals with opioid use disorder as a primary diagnosis to include strategies for those who have had limited opioid use, are at risk for opioid use, or have other conditions along with opioid use concerns.   

Overdose Response Strategy

The Overdose Response Strategy is an unprecedented and unique collaboration between public health and public safety, created to help local communities reduce drug overdoses and save lives by sharing timely data, pertinent intelligence, and innovative strategies.

Central Prevention Resource Center

Four Prevention Resource Centers (PRCs) provide regional support to students, parents, educators, community groups, community agencies, law enforcement and any other interested entities looking for prevention resource materials or support. Each PRC has a resource library with videos, DVDs, books, CDs, brochures and curricula available to the public for use. PRC staff are also able to provide training and education in the areas of prevention.

This vision of Rosebud Sioux Tribe Health Administration is to form their healthcare delivery system by establishing a relative focused, spiritually adaptive, & easily accessible comprehensive healthcare system whose foundation is built on the sacred Lakota virtues.
